“You have a guild of your own?” Illume asked.

“Yeah, All-4-One, it’s the family guild,” he replied.

“I like it,” Illume replied. “We’re the Order of Valka,” Illume said. “And we have another member already.”

“Well then…” John murmured.

Sir_Stitch_Alot has merged guilds with you.

Guild Strength: Eight.

“Looks like we’ll bat for the same team,” John added. “Where are you headed to now?”

“Capital,” Illume replied. “We have evidence of a traitor in this kingdom, so we’re headed down to inform the king.”

The elation of seeing his brother wore off. As it did, Illume was very aware of how queasy he was. His heart rate was still high, but it wasn’t out of control. A metallic taste coated his mouth along with over-watery saliva. Letting out a disgusted grunt, he stepped away, turned, and spat on the ground.

“Don’t worry. That’s common with panic attacks,” John said. “It should wear off in three to four hours.”

On the ground behind him were two bodies that appeared to have been human at one time, their skin a cold blue and their bodies bloated from the water. They had golden eyes with cat-like pupils. Their lips were peeled back as if they’d been gnawed off.

No hair was on their mostly naked bodies. Torn remnants of what once was their clothing kept the monsters PG-13. Illume walked around and gave the membranous frills that protruded from their heads a little kick.

“Illume!” Nari yelled.

Khal and Nari galloped up to them. She dismounted. The anger on her face made him step back as she swung her hand at him. A sharp pain shot through his face with the sting of a thousand needles.

“Don’t you EVER run off like that again!” she roared.

“Nari?” Khal said in a hushed tone.

“Not now, Khal,” she cut him off.

“You know how dangerous it is out here. You could’ve easily been killed and you KNOW you only have one life left!” she continued to tear into him.

“NARI!” Khal blurted.

“What?!” she sniped.

Illume stepped back again as she whipped around, her hair flung out, slapping him in the face. Khal pointed toward John and his family. A smirk tugged at Illume’s lips as Nari turned to face them. Her face was a brighter red than her hair. She let out a gasp and covered her mouth. John opened his arms to her.

“How are you doing, Nari?” John asked.

A smile parted on her lips as she ran to John and threw her arms around him.

“It’s good to see you!” Nari shouted. “How’ve you been?”

“Busy,” John replied. He released her and turned toward Mia. “Nari, this is my wife Mia, my son Ben, and daughter Emily. She’s a real big fan of yours.”

Nari leaned in and shook Mia’s hand. As they greeted one another, Illume walked over to Khal who’d stayed with the horses. He leaned against the steed.

“That wasn’t because you were angry, was it?” Khal asked.

Illume looked up at Khal. The young man locked eyes with him. A pure earnestness danced behind them. He wanted to lie, tell his adopted son he was fine.
